The University Labs Exhibition showcases projects and outcomes from seminars and classes across educational institutions nationwide, highlighting what kinds of design and designers are needed in contemporary society and how students—soon to enter the forefront of the field—are engaging with those challenges.
This year, in addition to regular course assignments, we aim to draw attention to the learning that emerges from design practices rooted in different cultures, customs, ways of thinking, and social contexts. Among the participating schools of eight groups encompassing 11 institutions, some feature international exchange in design education by introducing joint assignments between Japanese and overseas seminars, as well as residency-based production by international institutions.
