EVENT

Soup as Life

Soup requires minimal cooking: ingredients simply stewed in water. Yet a single bowl contains many layers of meaning—the potential of its ingredients, the effects of heat, local history, the drinker’s bodily sensations, the vessel, and the atmosphere of the place where it is eaten. In this exhibition, clothing and shelter are understood as the body’s external environment, while food is approached as its internal environment. Seen this way, all function as acts of wrapping the body, with food filling it from within. Using soup—the most minimal form of nourishment—as a starting point, the exhibition reflects on the origins of food, clothing and shelter. Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition through their five senses.
